i really dont know how to comment on your singing yesterday. but im sure i can sum it up with one word, disappointed. Thursday is the performance for Mr Toh ans Ms Lee. Saturday is the exchange proggramme with other schools. Mr Wong even said that SOTA's hall was the worst place to sing in. with yesterday standards, i have a bleak expectation. ... i read your reflections, every single one. i understand that many of you are not musically educated and dont know how to pitch your voice correctly to the perfect tone and note. if thats the case then you should have told us during sectionals to clear ALL doubts. but in any the case we will try to teach you all by monday. so sunday night i want eeryone to have an early sleep, so that you wont feel tired during sectionals. and also, monday sectioals we would most probably end sectionals at 6.30pm the earliest. Do let your parents know if they they are picking you up or expecting you home before a certain time. Dont over strain your voice over the weekend, if you are unwell do see a doctor. this are the links that we let you guys hear on monday, you can download the video/convert itinto a song into your phones and sing with it. listen out more to other section's voices in the video then sing along. listen out for your parts in the video and blend your voice. use your head voice and not your throat voice to sing, got to use your diaphragm. practice and show us a greater improvement on monday - 3pm outside music room.
Butterfly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gpRmcaT84E (take note of how they come in together, the voice so unite for every section. the sound that every section produced is in tune with each other. their dynamics, is very distinct especially ''flitter flutter flit, flirt'' pg 3. and their beginning captured your attention cause their entry point's impact was there.)
DiuDiuDangA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLy2n9y75XY (take note of their body movement, how much they were in the song. Also their emphasises on the words are very clear. look at you score while they are singing. if you see this ''>'' on your score above/below your notes, that is an accent, you have to emphasise on that note. their dynamics were also very clear and each section was singing as a whole with no voices sticking out. and their entry points are there, they didnt come in suddenly, they blended in then crescendo together. their ''chii'' the steam engine sound, they used alot of teeth if you can see, that was also a point mr wong told us. also their rhythm is correct.)
work on those points, not to leave out, Alynn' s post below mine. GUYS DONT BE DISCOURAGED. IM SURE WE WILL ACHIEVE WHAT WE WANT O ACHIEVE. WE THE THE DAMAI CHOIR FOR CRYING-OUT-LOUD. I HAVE THE FAITH IN YOU GUYS. LETS MAKE THIS SYF A MOMENT IN OUR LIVES THAT WEWOULD NEVER FORGET. ITS THE LAST LAP. THE FATE OF CHOIR LIES IN YOUR HANDS!
with much love, sharleen :) 1 april 2011.
