DISCIPLINE.

Hello choir. Carinda here. Today's session was...not a pleasant one right? Escpecially for the altos. We did scold you and stuff, but the reason is, ALTOS YOU DON'T PUT IN ANY EFFORT AT ALL. Only under stress and pressure, you guys perform up to expectations. Not good. You mean before competitions and concerts we must scold you and stress you and give you pressure before you can perform well? No. We can't do that. Why not just put in about 40% more effort? That should be just enough to keep you going for the whole session. You guys are only putting in 30%. NOT ENOUGH. I urge you to give another 40%. I know now choir isn't very bonded, isn't very fun and trust me. WE'RE WORKING ON THAT. All we ask for is 40% more. Ohkay? And trust me once you are bonded, 200% isn't a problem ^^ For now please trust that the situation will improve and the committee is trying our very very best to make choir less boring. We know it is, we feel that way too. And its not completely our faults, we have deadlines to meet for the parts we have to finish practicing before Mr Wong comes back (on friday) you know? So if you learn fast, satisfy us quickly, we can have more fun, more games, more bonding, less boring, less sian sessions. Makes sense right? So please please please cooperate. It only makes a difference if everyone cooperates together :) We'll try ohkay? And sorry for scolding you guys. Although you should instead. >( haha but please altos. Put in more effort. ^^ Ohkay bye. REMEMBER. SKIPPING CCA IS NOT A GOOD THING. YOU WILL GET THE WORST THINGS HAPPEN TO YOU. Recently attendance hasn't been so bad. Today's practice was pretty epic..if you know what i mean..ok,so i hope you guys enjoyed today's practice :) we went through the song till part A2 .pls go back and revise.if you think you can get away with it,you're wrong.as i said,if you dont practice,you are going to find yourself v lost.rmb the video?? that is our goal! :) so aim for it! ^^ take note of counting ,entry pts and pitching etc etc etc etc.listen out to one another! :)
to emphasise again,EVERY SECTION IS IMPT! doesnt mean that you are not taking the melody means that its none of your business and you are not impt.CHANGE THAT PESPECTIVE NOW. every section is impt,WE ARE A CHOIR.with one section less,we will sound different. you cant change the section you are in now (well,at least for these 6 mths),you can only change your thoughts. :) sing every part with joy .

Hey Syafiqah here :) Today's discipline was better than the previous practice. BUT that does not mean that you're discipline was perfect!! Gah!! Just like what Kay Seng said, all of you were chaotic when we were having P.T. When someone is talking in front, no matter if she or he isn't a committee member, you should give them the respect by paying attention to them. It's not easy for someone to conduct especially when the choir have grown bigger, so I seek everyones' cooperation for the next practice. Lastly, sectionals was horrible! PLEASE PLEASE PRACTICE!! Learn to sing out more especially the Altos. Now Alto is bigger so I expect all of you to sing louder. Sec 1s, don't rely on your seniors to sing out for you. Same goes for the new comers. On top of that, I expect to see better improvement in your singing, including your facial expression and etc.

a very good evening to everyone here from the damai choir, i'm josie, the vice-chairman of choir and i'm here to talk about your performance today.
an improvement in attendance today, thanks to munirah & farharnah who have just joined us again and also the new girl in choir! even if so, i would like to infrom everyone that PRACTICE is very important, we have to get everything right now or i'm afriad with this standard, we cant even get bronze for SYF because we're not even improving and C.O.P (certificate of particpation) will laughed and looked down by the entire school. i have to say that discipline is very important in choir, you can talk and have fun. of course, but when mr wong is teaching, please DO NOT MAKE SO MUCH NOISE. in case you guys dont know, whoever is caught with any of these offences ( late coming, never bring your necessary materials and poor discipline) will be punished. (haha) poor discipline will be writing lines and some of you are already in the black list. *DUH DUH DUH ~  * 
please give your full attention to whoever that is giving out instructions. i'm sure no one wants to get punished for this! *DUH DUH DUH ~  *  singing today was an improvement from monday, but the standard everyone is giving is low. please help your peers and seniors!! help your juniors! the future is with the junior. without a good foundation, choir wont be as good. you guys play the biggest part in their days in choir! the committee is just there to help run choir. the one that impact most on everyone is your friends in choir!

Hi choir, elena here. I know you guys are busy people and all so I prefer to keep things short and sweet.

Quick tips:

                 We're a choir so i hope to see the 'Less me and more we' attitude. It'ld be greatly appreciated if everyone plays at the right time only. We can have out own fun but when it's time to be serious, we have to be serious. Please work on this.

                  Remember to bring EVERYTHING you need to the stage BEFORE choir starts! no bargaining! 20 pushups/situps ok guys. No exceptions.

                 Cooperate with Janice! She's really really experienced in her music so she's kind of the best music advisor we have , please respect her for that and pay heed to her advices.

                 Lastly, be less chattery, i know you have all your friends around you in chior but have some self-discipline and self-restraint also, please do things FASTER. Show some sense of urgency. We don't really have much time every practice.

I like how everyone participates and not complain excessively but we have to be more enthusiastic when singing okie? It's a slow song we're learning but there has to be COLOUR.

Other than those things up there, it has been a fruitful and enjoying day with all of you. I hope to see more of these days! Cya guys on friday! :)

We let you guys have much freedom as compared to those days when we had syf. Please don't take advantage of us.
Remember those days where we had super long hours of choir? 3 nearly 4 hours long and sometimes 3 days a week. So guys, treat us with respect as much as we respect you. Play at right time! You guys are matured people right? Please act responsibly and do better for the future of choir!!

HELLO CHOIR :D thanks for reading this. Anyway i shall try to be interesting. Seems like thats my passion. And anyway this blog has been really really boring right? Tell everyone to get a grip. CCA is supposed to be fun, bond-ish and happy. But i realize we're always doing punishments and always getting scolded. Why?Why so? Its because our discipline is not up to standard. To keep us in check, the commitee has to scream, shout and scold to make sure order is kept. This commitee has the worst disciplined choir ever, to be honest. That is probably our fault but we just don't want to be strict. We know that you'll all the disgusted and annoyed and unhappy, and you'll not enjoy yourselves and go through the long and stupid process of trying to quit choir. DON'T DO IT. Its not worth it. Trust me, choir is fun. We have our fun times. All we need is some bonding and a hell lot more DISCIPLINE. All of you keep chattering away. You need 20 years to process what the com says before you actually do it. Put yourselves in our shoes. Yes. We may appear annoying and scold for nothing, and we are also ill disciplined sometimes, but when its time to get serious, we don't play around or do funny funny things. Serious times are when its time to sing, time for people to look at us and 'judge' us. Somehow. Ohkay anyway i am just super disappointed in your discipline thats all. Please improve. You don't get a lot of talk from Syafiqah about your discipline as well so please do try and reflect. You see this as nonsense but you never know until you try. Try being us for a day. Try keeping everybody quiet and in order for things to start happening. To me, choir at times can get boring. Yes sure, you can talk and have fun with your friends, for example when you're not singing, but be considerate and don't disturb people who are singing. Ok. Ok. Ok. Enough lol. Do practice your song. Yell. Don't be lazy, go to youtube now. Its a beautiful song :) CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR IT. BUT BEFORE YOU GO TO YOUTUBE, Tag now. Say "Piggy is beautiful" GOGOGOGO. :D Ok bye.

What do ya thk of choir practice today ? i hope you enjoyed the games (: I admit it was a bit messy at the beginning of choir la , but i wanna thank all of you for trying to cooperate with us . However , it can still be improve though (: But the main problem with you guys is your noise level . You seriously need to know when to talk and when not to talk . When someone is talking and giving instructions , you jolly well listen . Its as simple as that . Things would be done faster and we would have saved so much more time . I hope this will improve next practice on friday .

Your singing was not bad . But it wasn't good either . There's still so much room for improvements (: Keep on practising guys ! I'm sure you all wanna master the song as quickly as possible . And when you all sing right , please do not just sing your own part and heck care about the other sections . The key is to listen . Listen out to your notes , conductor and other sections in order to create beautiful music :3

And btw , i was really happy to see the number of people present in choir today . It was huge ! :D Please do continue to come for choir regularly and we'll be giving out the 3 prizes to the respective winners on Friday . And dont forget your choir fund on Friday :D Bring all the neccessary items on friday and we'll see you guys soon <3

Hello choir! This is Jiaqi speakingggg! :)

Today we have our second choir session with our sec1s who have just joined our family ^^ It is good to see most of you helping and guiding the sec1s out with all the notes and such. Do continue to help them out as majority of them have never been in a choir nor have any music background! Mr Wong has finalized our positions so please do not switch positions to your own accord when he is not here.

Despite that, today's discipline was not up to standard. There were lots of murmuring going around and when Mr Wong was talking. Even when the seniors were telling you instructions for the group singing, many of you were still busy chattering. Remember that we have to respect whoever is the one speaking and pay attention.

As for today's singing, it was quite good. Many of you managed to pick up your notes quickly and did not made Mr Wong go through that many times. For the altos, good job on singing out loud. But you'll have to be abit softer now due to the large group it is. As for the sopranos, do sing out more! It is hard to hear your parts now and the most important thing is that you all have parts that are the main melody. So, you have to try and sing out more :) Don't be afraid of making mistakes and thus singing softly. Instead you should sing out so that we will be able to correct your mistakes ^^ You won't want to have your voice sticking out in the section because of the wrong notes that you are singing. Also, if there are any parts that you are unsure of, do ask your section leaders to give you the notes :)

Remember to practice the parts that we have went through today!!

Alright, sec2s please remember to attend your theory lessons on Monday at the T&L lab from 2~3. The rest of you please assemble outside the AV theater at 3pm. Please bring your PE attire along as we will be having PT! :D For the sec1s that have got swimming, do try to report back as possible. We don't want you to miss the fun ^^ See you on Monday and have a good rest over the weekends!

The Singapore Lyric Opera: Mozart's Don Giovanni

A few weeks ago, Ms Phong has asked us if any of us wants to attend this musical titled Mozart's Don Giovanni. Here's a synopsis of the musical:

Don Giovanni written by Mozart and librettist Lorenzo da Ponte is the most dramatic and flamboyant of their collaborations. A score bursting with musical invention, beautiful arias, charming duets and dramatic ensembles all offset by wit and comic irony which bring a unique brilliance to the drama.

The Opera opens with a murder. During the course of the day the murderer, Don Giovanni, goes on to a wedding, several attempted seductions, a masquerade, a mugging and an encounter with an apparition whom he then invites to dinner. His luck finally runs out when the spectre of the man he murdered appears. Though offered heavenly redemption, Don Giovanni remains unrepentant until the flames of Hell consume him. If all this drama seems unrelenting, it is offset by the humorous and ironic comments of his servant Leporello.

Is Don Giovanni a comic or serious opera or both? The most convincing answer was given by Alfred Einstein “… it is an “opera buffa” with “seria” roles … a work of genius … incomparable and enigmatic from the evening of its first performance to the present day”.

The prices are in a range from $10.50 to $53.50. That's a huge subsidy from the original price of $25 to $130! The venue is at the Esplanade Theater. There are performance from 24 Feb(Fri), 25 Feb(Sat), 27 Feb(Sun) and 28 Feb(Mon) and all of them starts at 8PM. I have a few brochures with me so do approach me and take a look! Limelight 2012 Voices as One: Cedar Girls' School Choir

This is Cedar Girls' School Choir's very own concert. It is something like the combined concert that we had at SOTA last December, only higher scale. Hahaha. Here's a sypnosis:

Join the Cedar Girls’ Choral Excellence Choir as they present sacred and secular songs across a wide range of musical genres including traditional folk, jazz, contemporary, madrigals and opera arias. This concert will also feature a chamber ensemble as well as solo and duet performances.

The Cedar Girls’ Choral Excellence Choir—under the direction of Ms Naomi Chye—has distinguished itself as a Gold Award choir at the biennial Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging, receiving the Gold with Honours award in 2005, 2007 and 2011. The Choir has also done Singapore proud by garnering several awards at overseas competitions: Musica Religiosa in the Czech Republic; The Pacific Basin Music Festival in Hawaii; The International Music Festival in Australia; and the Bournemouth Music Maker Festival in the United Kingdom.

The Choir actively promotes cultural awareness through choral exchanges with high schools from Japan, Hong Kong and the A Cappella Choir Villach from Austria. The mission to share the passion for choral music with the community is also realised through a collaboration with the Singapore vocal group Budak Pantai and The Singapore American School Choir and Orchestra.

The standard price is $20 but there's a student price so it's $10 only! hahaha. benefits of a student ;D The venue will also be at the Esplanade Concert Hall. It is on 29th Mar(Thur) and starts at 7.30PM. Duration is around 1h 20mins~
